Statement by the Prime minister

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his shock and sadness about the shooting of two students in Alberta:
"Like all Canadians, I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the shootings today at W.R. Myers Public High School, killing one student and seriously injuring another. The loss of a young life is always difficult to accept. But the senselessness of this act of violence makes it even more painful and all the more difficult to accept and comprehend.
Aline joins me in offering heartfelt prayers for the families of the victims. And we hope that the staff and students of the school will be a source of strength and compassion for each other in the difficult days to come. They – and the people of Taber – will be in the thoughts of all Canadians."
