PRIME MINISTER NAMES NEW SENATE
WHIP

Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Jean Chrétien has named Senator William Rompkey of Newfoundland
and Labrador as the new Government Whip in the Senate.
In announcing the appointment, the Prime Minister
expressed his deep appreciation to former Senator Léonce Mercier, who was named
Whip on June 11, 1998 and retired from the Senate on August 8, 2001.
