Prime Minister announces staffing changes in the Prime Minister’s Office

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced a number of changes to senior staff positions in his office.

The changes announced included:


  • The Honourable Hélène Chalifour-Scherrer will join the office on September 7, 2004. She will replace the Honourable Francis Fox as Principal Secretary upon his departure, effective October 1, 2004.

  • Jacline Lanthier will serve as Director of Tour, effective September 7, 2004. She replaces Mario Cuconato who is returning to the private sector.

  • Marc Roy will serve as the Associate Director of Communications, effective September 1, 2004. Scott Reid, who has been acting as the interim Director of Communications, will assume those responsibilities on a permanent basis.

  • Karl Littler will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff (Cabinet Affairs). Mr. Littler assumed his new responsibilities effective August 10, 2004.

  • Peter Nicholson, currently Senior Special Advisor will also assume the responsibilities for all policy operations within the Prime Minister’s Office, effective immediately.

  • Karen Martin is confirmed as Director of Appointments.

“I thank those departing for their past service and welcome those arriving to their new positions. I am confident this team will provide outstanding support to the government, the cabinet and our caucus,” said the Prime Minister.
