Prime Minister announces changes to the Ministry

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that he has accepted the decision of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Judy Sgro, to step aside from Cabinet.

NEWS RELEASE

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that he has accepted the decision of the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Judy Sgro, to step aside from Cabinet.


The Prime Minister also announced the appointment of the Honourable Giuseppe (Joseph) Volpe as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.



In addition, the Honourable Lucienne Robillard, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, will take on additional responsibilities as Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development upon her swearing in.



“I want to express my gratitude to Ms. Sgro for her service to the country as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. It was with reluctance but great respect that I accepted her decision to step aside. I know that Minister Volpe and Minister Robillard will bring tremendous commitment to their responsibilities”.
