Prime Minister Announces Appointments to the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy

April 11, 2005
Ottawa, Ontario

NEWS RELEASE

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced the appointments of Linda Coady and Steve Williams as members of the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy.

"Ms. Coady and Mr. Williams will bring varied and important perspectives to the Roundtable. The quality of their experience will add a great deal to this distinguished group," said the Prime Minister. "I am extremely pleased with the quality of the individuals who have agreed to take on the important role that I have outlined for the NRTEE."

Linda Coady is currently Vice President, Sustainability, Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). She was previously Vice President, Pacific Region for World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF-CANADA). Ms. Coady has also worked for more than 20 years in the private sector, notably in the area of forestry. She held the position of Vice President for MacMillan Bloedel and for Weyerhaeuser's British Columbia's Coastal Operations.

Steve Williams has vast experience in the oil patch and energy management. He has over 20 years of experience in the international energy industry and has demonstrated strong leadership in sustainable development, health and safety, finance, marketing, human resources and information technology. He is currently Executive Vice President, Oil Sands for Suncor in Calgary.

The NRTEE brings together distinguished Canadians from all sectors of society -- government, industry, labour, academia, environmental organizations and aboriginal groups - dedicated to the promotion of sustainable development in Canada. It is an independent advisory body that provides decision makers, opinion leaders and the Canadian public with advice and recommendations on promoting sustainable development.

The Prime Minister recently announced a new, expanded mandate for the NRTEE that includes the development a long-term energy and climate change strategy for Canada.
