Prime Minister announces appointment of Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that Her Excellency the Governor General has approved his recommendation that the Honourable Robert D. Laing be appointed Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan.
Chief Justice Laing has served as a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Saskatchewan since his appointment in 1994. He received a bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1967 and was admitted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1971. Prior to his initial appointment to the bench, he was a partner with the firm McKercher, McKercher, Laing and Whitmore.
This appointment is effective January 1, 2006.
