Prime Minister Names Parliamentary Secretaries

September 7, 1999
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries to assist Ministers with their parliamentary and portfolio responsibilities.

The assignments of a number of Parliamentary Secretaries will be continued, while other members of Caucus have received new assignments.

"Parliamentary Secretaries are indispensable to the ability of our government to meet the needs of Canadians," said the Prime Minister. "We have always been fortunate in the depth of talent we have in our Caucus to fill these important positions. And I have made a point of making sure that as many of our MPs as possible have the opportunity to benefit from this experience. I would also like to thank all of the Parliamentary Secretaries who have made important contributions to our success."

A list of Parliamentary Secretaries is attached. The appointments are effective immediately.
