NEWS RELEASE

The Prime Minister today announced that Parliament will return on Monday, October 4, 2004.

The Governor General, on the Prime Minister’s recommendation, has signed a Proclamation to summon Parliament to meet at 11:00 a.m. on October 4 for the dispatch of business.

The election of the Speaker of the House of Commons will take place on that day, and the Speech from the Throne to begin the 1st Session of the 38th Parliament will be read by the Governor General in the Senate in the afternoon of October 5, 2004.
