September 23, 1996 – The President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Honourable Stéphane Dion, today announced the appointment of Marguerite-Marie Galipeau as Deputy Chairperson of the Public Service Staff Relations Board. This appointment is effective immediately.

Ms. Galipeau has been a member of the Public Service Staff Relations Board since 1988. From 1983 to 1988, she was a member of the Canada Labour Relations Board and, prior to that, she was a Labour lawyer with the Department of Justice providing legal services to the Treasury Board.

Born in May 1949, Ms. Galipeau graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts and later received a Licence in Law from the same university. She was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1977 and, in 1981, she obtained a Master’s degree in Labour Law.

The Public Service Staff Relations Board is an independent, quasi-judicial tribunal responsible for the administration of the Public Service Staff Relations Act. The Board establishes systems of collective bargaining and grievance adjudication in the federal public service. The Board is also responsible for the administration of certain provisions of the Canada Labour Code concerning occupational health and safety of public servants.
