APPOINTMENTS TO THE TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD OF CANADA

 

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, November 3, 1999 – The Honourable Stéphane Dion, President of the Privy Council, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board, today announced the following appointments:

Robert Henry Wright of Ottawa is appointed as a full-time member of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board, effective November 8, 1999.

Mr. Wright obtained his degree in Business Administration from Bishop's University and has worked as a consultant with a variety of companies throughout his career. He is currently working for the Business Development Bank of Canada. Mr. Wright's experience in both the public and private sectors has enabled him to develop and help implement strategic approaches to economic development and human and financial resources management. Mr. Wright ran his own company for many years, and has also conducted structural and organizational needs assessment for fast-growing firms such as Care Corporation and the Peel Children's Centre.

Jonathan Seymour of Vancouver is appointed as a part-time member of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board, effective immediately.

Mr. Seymour has 35 years of experience in the transportation field. Since 1986, Mr. Seymour has worked as a marine transportation consultant for a variety of companies, and until recently was the Executive Director of the International Maritime Centre in Vancouver. He also worked as a senior marine policy advisor for the Government of British Columbia from 1989 to 1992, and has managed large-scale projects throughout his career in Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom.

The primary mission of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board is to advance safety in the aviation, marine, rail and pipeline modes of transportation. The Board conducts independent investigations into transportation occurrences in order to make findings as to their causes and contributing factors, identifies safety deficiencies as evidenced by transportation occurrences and makes recommendations designed to eliminate or reduce any such safety deficiencies.
