Clarity Act

         On December 13, 1999, the Clarity Bill (C-20) was tabled for first reading in the House of Commons. It was passed by the House on March 15, 2000, and by the Senate, in its final version, on June 29, 2000.

         This legislation was designed to give effect to the opinion in the Quebec Secession Reference rendered by the Supreme Court of Canada on August 20, 1998. The following documents provide a detailed description of the bill, its passage, its objectives and the final version of the Clarity Act.
