MINISTER DION BANKS ON COOPERATION
TO SUPPORT MONTREAL`S ECONOMY
SAINT-LAURENT, QUEBEC, February 7, 1997 – The Honourable Stéphane Dion,
President of the Privy Council and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs,
attended the opening of the expanded facility of AlliedSignal Aerospace Canada
Inc. in Saint-Laurent.
The company received a $4 million grant from the Government of Quebec to expand
its facility. It should be noted that it has a number of contracts from the
federal government, in particular from the Department of National Defence. These
include a $5.5 million contract to manufacture Night Vision Goggles and a $15
million five-year contract for the repair and overhaul of Canadian Forces F-18
aircraft.
Minister Dion noted that Canada is ranked fourth in the world in the aerospace
field. "The success of AlliedSignal Aerospace Canada Inc. is an excellent
example of Canada's leadership in this area. The company's growth is proof that
both orders of government have every interest in working together to achieve
common objectives that sustain economic activity in such a crucial sector for
Montreal's economy," the Minister said.
