PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN THE SENIOR RANKS OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE

April 3, 2001

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the following changes in the Public Service:

Janice Cochrane, currently Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, becomes Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services. She replaces Ranald Quail who has been appointed as a Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office, and who will head the newly established Task Force on Modernizing Human Resources Management.

Michel Dorais, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, becomes Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

Michael Nurse, currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Real Property Services Branch, Public Works and Government Services Canada, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Public Works and Government Services.

Louis Ranger, currently Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy), Transport Canada, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Transport.

These appointments are effective April 9, 2001.
