Statement by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed
the pride of Canada at the news that Ben Webster of Canada Everest 2000 reached
the Summit of Mt. Everest:
" All Canadians join me in offering hearty
congratulations to Ben Webster and the Canada Everest 2000 Team on their
extraordinary achievement. They have overcome incredible obstacles and
endured many hardships to join the very select company of true adventurers
who have stood at the top of the world. We have been with them every step of
the way; cheering their progress, sharing their setbacks and - above all -
praying for their safe return.
I am thrilled that a Canadian is among the first to reach
the summit of Everest in the 21st century. And I very much look
forward to the Team’s return to Canada so we can celebrate their courage
and their daring."
