Lieutenant-Governor Appointment

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Myra Freeman
as the Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia.

Myra A. Freeman
Myra Freeman is an educator with a distinguished record of community
involvement and service in Nova Scotia. She is the first woman to be appointed
Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia.
Mrs. Freeman earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from
Dalhousie University. In 1971, she commenced a career in teaching with the
Halifax District School Board, now the Halifax Regional School Board.
Mrs. Freeman has been appointed to numerous boards and foundations,
including: the Nova Scotia Talent Trust Fund, the Nova Scotia Division of the
Duke of Edinburgh Awards, the Atlantic Theatre Festival Foundation, Grace
Maternity Hospital Foundation, the Citizens Advisory Committee to Maritime
Broadcasting System Limited, and Canadian Health Care Consulting Services
Limited.
Mrs. Freeman has also given generously of her time to numerous voluntary
organizations including: The Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Canadian
Jewish Congress and the CRB Gift of Israel Program. In 1990, she was Festival
Chair for the World Figure Skating Championships which were held in Halifax. And
in 1995, she was Manager of the Spousal Program for the Halifax G-7 Summit.
Mrs. Freeman and her husband, Larry, have three children: Daniel, Jonathan
and Debra.
