Prime Minister announces Canada Post mandate review
October 31, 1995
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the establishment of a committee to review the mandate of Canada Post, and the appointment of George Radwanski as its chairperson.
The Canada Post Review Committee will examine both the financial and policy issues essential to the future of Canada Post. It will also devise a strategy to provide cost-effective, quality services to the public as well as ensure the viability of the corporation.
The government recognizes that Canada Post has worked diligently to provide Canadians with a universal, self-sustaining postal service. At the same time, it has been ten years since the government thoroughly reviewed the mandate of Canada Post. Canadians expect improved services as well as improved efficiency from government. The government wants to meet that demand because Canadians deserve the best postal service in the world.
Mr. Radwanski will be supported by a committee of public officials. A secretariat has also been established to receive enquiries and submissions by Canadians. The secretariat can be reached at 1-800-823-8373 or by writing to Canada Post Mandate Review Office, 350 Albert Street, 4th Floor, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 1A4.
The report of the mandate review is expected by May 31, 1996.
Attached are biographical notes on Mr. Radwanski.
