Quebec judicial appointment

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced that the Honourable
André Deslongchamps of Montreal is appointed Associate
Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec. He replaces Associate
Chief Justice Lyse Lemieux who was appointed Chief Justice of
the Quebec Superior Court.
Associate Chief Justice Deslongchamps has been a judge of the
Superior Court of Quebec since 1979. He had been a judge of the
Provincial Court of Quebec (Expropriation Tribunal) since 1974,
and was Assistant Vice-Chairman of that Tribunal from 1975 to
1979. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Associate Chief Justice
Deslongchamps practised law in Montreal.
This appointment is effective immediately.
