Prime Minister Announces Appointment of a New Deputy Minister of Finance

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Scott Clark
as Deputy Minister of Finance. Since November 1994, Mr. Clark has held
the position of Associate Deputy Minister of Finance. His career with
the Department of Finance spans some twenty years during which time he
has held such positions as Senior Assistant Deputy Minister and G-7 Deputy
for Canada, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fiscal Policy and Economic Analysis
and Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic Programs and Government Finance.
From October 1989 to November 1992, Mr. Clark served as Canada's Executive
Director to the International Monetary Fund in Washington.
Mr. Clark succeeds David Dodge who has been appointed Special Advisor to
the Minister of Finance and will be pursuing a sabbatical at the University
of British Columbia as Visiting Scholar until next spring. It is intended
that Mr. Dodge would assume new responsibilities in the Public Service
at that time.
Mr. Clark's appointment is effective July 14, 1997.
