Prime Minister Chrétien Announces Senior Executive Interchange

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced that William A. Rowat, currently Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, has been appointed Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office. In this position, he will be on loan to the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador to coordinate the province's interest in Voisey's Bay for a period of one year, effective immediately. It is intended that Mr. Rowat would assume new responsibilities in the Public Service when he has completed this assignment.
Mr. Rowat will work under the direction of Premier Brian Tobin on this project, which represents a major economic development critical to the future of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Under the auspices of a recently concluded Memorandum of Understanding for exchanges with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, this arrangement will foster a collaborative working relationship and partnership on a project of economic importance to Newfoundland and Labrador as well as to Canada.
