Official Visit to Canada of Romanian President

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced that Romanian President Emil Constantinescu will pay an official visit to Canada from May 24 to 30, at the invitation of Governor General Romeo Leblanc.
"I welcome President Constantinescu's visit to Canada, and I look forward to discussing ways of increasing and diversifying our economic and trade relations," said the Prime Minister. "I am also pleased to note that a delegation of Romanian businesspeople will be in Canada exploring new trade and investment opportunities during the President's visit."
In Ottawa, from May 24 to 26, President Constantinescu will meet with Prime Minister Chrétien, Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray, the Governor General, and the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons.
On May 26-27, he will be in Toronto where he will meet with National Defence Minister Art Eggleton. He will also address the Canadian Club of Toronto and the Empire Club of Canada.
On May 27, he will travel to Montreal, where he will meet Human Resources Development Minister Pierre Pettigrew and give a speech on business opportunities in Romania to a Montreal Conference on global economies. On May 28, he will receive an honourary doctorate at the University of Montreal, after which he will travel to Quebec City for a meeting with Premier Lucien Bouchard.
On May 29, President Constantinescu will fly to Edmonton, where he will meet with Justice Minister Anne McLellan and with members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
