President of Burkina Faso and Head of Organization of African Unity to Visit Canada

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced that President of Burkina Faso and Chairman of the Organization of African Unity Blaise Compaoré will visit Canada September 15-19.
"I welcome the opportunity to meet with President Compaoré," said the Prime Minister. "I will pledge Canada's continued desire to work with Burkina Faso and the other members of the Organization of African Unity to ensure social, economic and political development."
Following his arrival in Ottawa, President Compaoré will meet with the Prime Minister and other ministers.
On September 17, the President will travel to Moncton, New Brunswick, where he will meet with Diane Marleau, Minister of International Cooperation and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie and with the Premier of New Brunswick, Camille Thériault. Moncton will be the site of the eighth Sommet de la Francophonie in September 1999.
On September 18, he will visit the Hydro Quebec project at James Bay, and later will meet Governor General Roméo LeBlanc at La Citadelle in Quebec City.
On September 19, President Compaoré will meet with Quebec Premier Lucien Bouchard in Montreal before leaving Canada.
