Prime Minister announces changes in Ministry

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the following changes in the Ministry:

- the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay has been appointed Solicitor General of Canada; and

- the Honourable Claudette Bradshaw has been sworn to the Privy Council and appointed Minister of Labour.

THE HONOURABLE CLAUDETTE BRADSHAW, P.C., M.P.

Claudette Bradshaw was first elected to the House of Commons in June 1997. She served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for the Francophonie from 1997 to the present. Before entering politics she had served since 1974, as the Executive Director of the Moncton Headstart Early Family Intervention Centre, of which she was the founder. She also served as Girls' Program Director at Moncton Boys' and Girls' Club from 1968 to 1974.

Ms. Bradshaw has also served as the Co-Chair of the National Crime Prevention Committee and represented New Brunswick on the Committee. She was the Atlantic representative on the National Welfare Council. She served on the Provincial Housing Task Force and the New Brunswick Housing Coalition. Ms. Bradshaw received the Muriel Fergusson Award from the Moncton Chamber of Commerce for Business Woman of the Year, the Ann Bell Award for the N.B. Child Welfare Association, and the Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club.
