Prime Minister Announces Senior Appointments

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Claire Morris, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources Development, as Deputy Minister of Human Resources Development. Mrs. Morris has also been designated to serve concurrently as Deputy Minister of Labour. Mrs. Morris succeeds Mel Cappe, who became Clerk of the Privy Council on January 18, 1999. This appointment is effective immediately.

The Prime Minister also announced the appointment of James Lahey, currently Deputy Secretary (Intergovernmental Policy), Privy Council Office, as Associate Deputy Minister of Human Resources Development to succeed Mrs. Morris. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Lahey was Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy, with the Department of Human Resources Development. This appointment is effective February 22, 1999.
