Chinese Premier Zhu to visit Canada

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Premier Zhu Rongji of the People's Republic of China will make an official visit to Canada that will take him coast-to-coast April 14 to 20.
Premier Zhu will be in Ottawa April 15 and 16, where he will meet with the Prime Minister to discuss Canada-China relations and international cooperation.
The Chinese premier arrives in Canada April 14 in St. John's, Newfoundland where he will meet Veterans Affairs Minister Fred Mifflin and Premier Brian Tobin. He will also travel to Toronto where on April 16 and 17 he will meet the Canada-China Business Council and Ontario Premier Mike Harris.
On April 17 and 18 in Calgary, Premier Zhu will meet Justice Minister Anne McLellan. He will also meet Alberta Premier Ralph Klein and tour advanced agricultural facilities before visiting Banff.
Mr. Zhu will complete his Canadian visit in British Columbia where he will meet Fisheries Minister David Anderson and B.C. Premier Glen Clark in Victoria April 19, before departing from Vancouver April 20.
During his visit, Premier Zhu will be accompanied by Wang Zhongyu, State Councillor and Secretary-General of the State Council; Tang Jiaxuan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Zeng Peiyan, Minister in Charge of the State Development Planning Commission and Shi Guangsheng, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.
