Prime Minister Announces New Ambassador to the United Nations

Prime Minister Paul Martin announced that later today, he will be appointing the Honourable Allan Rock, P.C., Q.C., most recently Minister of Industry, to be Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. This appointment will be effective January 5, 2004.

NEWS RELEASE

Prime Minister Paul Martin announced that later today, he will be appointing
the Honourable Allan Rock, P.C., Q.C., most recently Minister of Industry, to be Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations in New York. This appointment will be effective January 5, 2004.

Mr. Rock was first elected in 1993, after a successful professional career. Immediately following the 1993 election, he was appointed Canada’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General. In 1997 he was appointed Minister of Health, a position he held until his appointment as Minister of Industry in 2002. He graduated from the University of Ottawa where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and later a Bachelor of Laws.
