Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Member of Parliament for Western Arctic, has been appointed as Minister of State (Northern Development).

“I am pleased to welcome Ethel back as part of our team,” said Prime Minister Martin. “With her deep knowledge of the North, our deliberations are broadened by the perspectives Ethel brings to Cabinet discussions."

There was a delay in her appointment in order to await the results of a judicial recount following the federal election on June 28, 2004. However, the application for a judicial recount has now been withdrawn.
