Statement by the Prime Minister on the death of Harold Culbert

March 02, 2005
Ottawa, Ontario

“It is with sadness that I learned of the passing of Harold Culbert.

Harold Culbert's life spoke eloquently and loyally of public service in Canada's Parliament and in his beloved community of Woodstock, New Brunswick.

He was a man of conviction who served the needs of others, first as mayor of Woodstock, then as an M.P. and always as a prominent and devoted community leader. He stayed true to those who elected him and whose interests he dedicated himself to defending and promoting. And he did it in his own way, through personal involvement and commitment.

In a democracy such as ours, we are fortunate to have people of Harold Culbert's mettle and example. Through his public service, through his support of others, he made a lasting contribution to society. He helped to build a better Canada.

I extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Doreena, and his children, Eugene, Angela and Timothy.”
