Statement by the Prime Minister on the hostage situation in Iraq
December 07, 2005
Ottawa, Ontario
"Earlier today, a new video was released indicating that the deadline set by kidnappers of four foreign citizens, including two Canadians, taken hostage in Iraq has been extended by 48 hours.
“I want to emphasize that our thoughts and prayers are with the hostages, their families and their loved ones as they undergo this terrible ordeal.
“It is critically important to underscore that these men were on a mission of peace. They were there to help the Iraqi people.
“I want to reassure the public that the Government of Canada remains absolutely committed to securing the safe release of the hostages. Every resource of the government is committed towards achieving that outcome.
“Canada remains willing to listen to and speak with persons who may have information that will assist in the safe release of the hostages.”
