Biographical Notes

The Honourable Robert Nicholson
Leader of the Government in the House of Commons

Rob Nicholson was first elected to Parliament in 1984. He was re-elected in 1988, 2004 and 2006. He served as Critic for Parliamentary Affairs and for Transport and has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Transport. He was appointed Chief Opposition Whip in January 2005.

Mr. Nicholson was appointed Minister for Science and Minister responsible for Small Business by Prime Minister Kim Campbell in 1993. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons from 1989 to 1990 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney General from 1989 to 1993. Additionally, he was elected to the Niagara Regional Council in 1997 and was re-elected in 2000 and 2003.

Mr. Nicholson was born in Niagara Falls in 1952. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University and a law degree from the University of Windsor, and he is a member of the Upper Canada Law Society. Prior to his election, Mr. Nicholson practised law.

Mr. Nicholson is married to Arlene and is the father of three children.
