Legislation
Government bills can be introduced in either the House of Commons (C-bills)
or the Senate (S-bills). However, bills in which the government proposes to
spend public money or impose a tax must originate in the House of Commons.
Visit the Library of Parliament's LEGISINFO site for detailed information on
government legislation including text of bills, major speeches in Parliament,
status of a bill, selected recorded votes, coming into force information,
departmental information and further reading.
You can also visit sites to obtain information on the progress of legislation
in the Senate or the status of House Business in the House of
Commons.
In addition to dealing with government bills, the Senate also examines
private bills introduced by individual Senators or Members of the House of
Commons.
For more detailed information on the different types of bills that come
before Parliament for consideration please visit the Parliamentary
website.
