ASSOCIATE DEPUTY MINISTER OF INDUSTRY

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Paul Thibault, currently Federal Coordinator, Y2K National Contingency Planning at the Department of National Defence, as Associate Deputy Minister of Industry.
Paul Thibault began his career in the public service in 1968, and held a number of positions with the Department of Foreign Affairs, both in Canada and abroad, from June 1968 to August 1985. He has held progressively more senior positions since that time including, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Security and Intelligence), Privy Council Office; and Assistant Secretary, Government Operations Sector and Executive Director, Canada Infrastructure Works Program, Treasury Board Secretariat. Prior to assuming his current position in 1998, Mr. Thibault was Executive Director of the Immigration and Refugee Board. Mr. Thibault studied at the University of Ottawa where he obtained his Bachelor of Social Sciences. He also obtained a diploma in Public Administration from l’École nationale d’administration in Paris.
This appointment is effective July 10, 2000.
