Prime Minister announces appointment of André Ouellet as Chair of Canada Post Corporation
Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of the Honourable André Ouellet as Chair of the Board of Directors of Canada Post Corporation.
"As a former Postmaster General, Mr. Ouellet is ideally suited to provide direction for Canada Post Corporation in the challenging years ahead," said the Prime Minister.
Mr. Ouellet served as Canada's Postmaster General from 1972 to 1974, and again from 1980 to 1981. He was the Minister responsible for the creation of Canada Post Corporation in October 1981.
André Ouellet is one of Canada's most experienced federal politicians. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1967, and was re-elected in every subsequent federal election. He has served in many different cabinet portfolios, most recently as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The appointment is effective immediately.
Mr. Ouellet will not be drawing his parliamentary pension in his new position.
