CRTC Appointment
Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Françoise Bertrand as Chairperson of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
The appointment is effective as of August 12, 1996.

Françoise Bertrand was born in Montreal in 1948. She has a solid management background and excellent appreciation of the issues and challenges facing the Canadian radio-television and telecommunications industry.
Mrs. Bertrand received her Masters degree in Environmental Studies at York University in 1975. Following her graduation, Mrs. Bertrand worked as Director of Communications for the Société des Jeux de Québec and as Director of Projects for the marketing research firm Sorecom Inc. Between 1980 and 1988, she occupied three successive positions at the Université du Québec à Montréal, including Dean of Resource Management. From 1988 until 1995, Mrs. Bertrand was Chief Executive Officer for the Société de Radio-Télévision du Québec (Radio-Québec). Currently as Principal at KPMG Management Consulting, she is responsible for the communications sector.
Mrs. Bertrand has served on several boards of directors, including
the Association for Tele-Education in Canada, TV5 Latin America
and TV5 Quebec Canada.
