Changes in Ministry announced

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today changes in the Ministry.

The Prime Minister announced the appointment of the Honourable Douglas Young as Minister of National Defence and Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable Pierre Pettigrew as Minister of Human Resources Development, and the Honourable Don Boudria as Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for Francophonie.

The Ministers will be sworn in by the Governor General in a private ceremony at Rideau Hall at 2 p.m. today. The Prime Minister will be available to the media following the swearing-in ceremony.

Attached are biographical notes on Mr. Boudria, a list of the Ministry according to precedence, and the new Cabinet committee membership list.

Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for Francophonie

Constituency: Glengarry-Prescott-Russell (Ontario)

Don Boudria was first elected to Parliament in 1984 and has served as Chief Government Whip and Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus.

Mr. Boudria is a former Councillor for Cumberland Township and represented Prescott-Russell in the Ontario Legislature from 1981-1984. He is the founding President of the Ontario section of the International Association of French-speaking Parliamentarians.

Mr. Boudria was educated at the University of Waterloo. Prior to political life, he spent 15 years as a federal government employee, holding various positions, including Chief Purchasing Agent.

Mr. Boudria was born in Hull, Quebec in 1949. He and his wife have two children.
