Hurricane in Mexico

Prime Minister Chrétien today expressed his sadness on learning of the devastating impact of Hurricane Pauline on the Pacific coast of Mexico.

"I know I speak for the thousands of Canadians who have enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of the people of this region when I say that we are shocked by the tragic loss of life and the enormous damage and suffering that has been wreaked by this storm," said the Prime Minister.

On behalf of the people and Government of Canada, the Prime Minister extended his deepest sympathies to the people of this region, to those who have been injured and to the families of those who have lost their lives.
