Prime Minister Announces New Deputy Minister of National Defence
Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of James Judd, currently Assistant Deputy Minister of International Trade and Finance at the Department of Finance, as Deputy Minister of National Defence to succeed Louise Fréchette who has been appointed Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
Prior to assuming his current position in November 1996, Mr. Judd was Assistant Deputy Minister of Corporate Services at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Mr. Judd joined the Public Service in April 1973 and has held progressively more senior positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade since that time. From September 1992 to September 1994, he was Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet for Foreign and Defence Policy in the Privy Council Office.
The Prime Minister took this opportunity to thank Ms. Fréchette for her dedicated service over the years and to wish her every success in her new role at the United Nations.
Mr. Judd's appointment is effective February 23, 1998.
