Changes in the Prime Minister’s Office

NEWS RELEASE

Prime Minister Paul Martin today made the following announcement concerning senior staff positions in the PMO.

Mario Laguë, who has served as the Director of Communications since December 12, 2003 will return to the Privy Council Office, effective July 12, 2004. Before entering the Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Lague served as Director General of Communications at the Intergovernmental Affairs Secretariat and as Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet – Communications, at the Privy Council Office. Previously, Mr. Laguë had also served in Premier Bourassa’s office and was Quebec’s representative in Venezuela and then in Mexico before joining the federal public service. Mr. Laguë will be replaced on a short-term basis by Scott Reid, Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister.

"Mr. Laguë made a commitment to me last winter that he would take on this role at my personal request until the time of election. Having fulfilled that commitment, I wish him the very best as he returns to the ranks of the senior civil service in the Privy Council Office and I thank him for his dedication and wise counsel."

Michele Cadario, who most recently served as Campaign Director for the 2004 federal election campaign and as National Director of the Liberal Party of Canada is joining the Prime Minister's Office as Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), effective immediately.

"Ms. Cadario has served as a close advisor and staff member to me for over a decade. I am very pleased with her decision to join the Prime Minister's Office and apply her talents and energy to government."
