Prime Minister announces appointment of Associate Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that Her Excellency the Governor General has approved his recommendation that the Honourable Neil Charles Wittmann be appointed Associate Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. He will replace the Honourable Allan B. Sulatycky who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Associate Chief Justice Wittmann received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1967 and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1968. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba. He was appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Court of Appeal of the Northwest Territories on June 8, 1999 and, later that same year, was also appointed to the Court of Appeal of Nunavut. Prior to being appointed to the bench, he was a partner with the firm of Code Hunter Wittmann.

This appointment comes into effect immediately.
