Prime Minister announces appointment of Chief Justice of Tax Court of Canada

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that Her Excellency the Governor General has approved his recommendation that the Honourable Donald G.H. Bowman be appointed Chief Justice of the Tax Court of Canada.

Chief Justice Bowman received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto and was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1962. In 1974, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel. He was appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada in 1991 and appointed Associate Chief Justice in 2000.

Prior to his initial appointment to the bench, Chief Justice Bowman was a partner with the firm of Stikeman, Elliot, Robarts, and Bowman. Previously, he had also been Director of the Tax Litigation Section at the Department of Justice.

This appointment is effective immediately.
