Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, will visit Canada on May 27, 2005.

“President Abbas’s visit will help to strengthen relations between Canada and the Palestinian Authority, especially in the areas of support for Palestinian capacity building and the Middle East Peace Process,” stated the Prime Minister.

Discussions between the Prime Minister and Palestinian Authority President Abbas will focus on topics related to the Middle East Roadmap, the implications of Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and parts of the West Bank, Canada’s plans to enhance its contribution to the Middle East Peace Process, and the Palestinian refugee issue.
