STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

Prime Minister Paul Martin today expressed the condolences of all Canadians following the passing of the Honourable Pierre Charles, Prime Minister of Dominica:

“Today we express sympathy over the loss of Prime Minister Pierre Charles. During this difficult time, Canada’s commitment to Dominica as a hemispheric partner remains strong.

Under Prime Minister Pierre Charles’ leadership, Dominica has been a valued partner, committed to international co-operation and strengthening of ties between our two countries. Canadians of Dominican origin have also contributed greatly to this relationship and the friendship between our countries.

Canada acknowledges the strong democratic tradition of Dominica and pledges to continue to help the country address the challenges it is currently facing.”
