Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointments of Ana Cristina
Marques and Harinder P.S. Ahluwalia as members of the National Round Table on
the Environment and the Economy.
The Round Table was established in 1994 as an independent agency of the
federal government committed to providing decision makers and opinion leaders
with reliable information and objective views on the debate on the relationship
between the environment and the economy.
A multi-sectoral body, the Round Table acts as a catalyst in identifying,
explaining and promoting the principles and practices of sustainable development
throughout Canada. It brings together distinguished Canadians from all sectors
of society - government, industry, labour, academia, environmental organizations
and aboriginal groups - dedicated to the promotion of sustainable development.
These appointments are effective immediately.

BIOGRAPHIES OF NEW MEMBERS
Ana Cristina Marques, from Toronto, is Co-owner and Developer of
Dreamcoast Homes, a restoration and redevelopment company, and Co-owner and
Sales and Marketing Executive of Trio Roofing Systems Inc. Previously, Ms.
Marques was an Executive with a waste management company. She is a graduate of
York University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies. Ms.
Marques is an active member of the community, serving as a delegate with the
Luso-Canadian National Congress and a director on the Abrigo Centre Board.
Dr. Harinder P.S. Ahluwalia, ENG., from Kirkland is the founder,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Info-Electronics Systems Inc., a
company which provides computer-based solutions in the field of meteorology,
hydrology and process control. Dr. Ahluwalia obtained a Bachelor of Technology
in Electronics Engineering and a Master of Technology in Communications
Engineering from IIT in Delhi, India. He also graduated from the University of
Manitoba with a Doctorate in Electromagnetics. Dr. Ahluwalia has written a
number of papers in the field of Electrical Engineering and Meteorology. Dr.
Ahluwalia is a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec, the Canada India
Business Council, the Canadian Advanced Technology Association and the India
Canada Commercial Council.
