KING AND QUEEN OF NORWAY TO VISIT CANADA

January 24, 2002
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway will make a State visit to Canada from May 6 to 10, 2002, at the invitation of Governor General Adrienne Clarkson.

"This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of Canada-Norway diplomatic relations," said the Prime Minister. "We look forward to celebrating this milestone with the King and Queen, and to building on a history of strong and valued relations between our two countries."

This is the first State visit to Canada for King Harald V and Queen Sonja. While in Canada, the King and Queen will meet with the Prime Minister and the Governor General. The visit will serve to enhance bilateral, multilateral, cultural, and commercial relations between Canada and Norway and to identify new opportunities for cooperation and partnership in these areas.
