STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

It’s with sadness that I learned today of the passing of Eric Kierans. Few Canadians combined a passion for their country, public service and a commitment to social and economic justice with greater dedication than Eric.

Whether as a member of the business community, a provincial and federal cabinet minister or social activist, Eric worked tirelessly in the cause of building a greater Canada. His voice of moderation, reason and pragmatism, combined with a sharp intellect, made him not only a great public figure, but a role model for others in public life.

He will be greatly missed. On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I extend sympathy to his family.
