Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the launch of the Government of
Canada Fellows Program to allow the exchange of senior executives in the
public service of Canada with other sectors such as business, academia,
not-for-profit organizations and other levels of government.
The program will support renewal of the public service through the exchange of
knowledge, skills, expertise and best practices between the Canadian public
service and other sectors of Canadian society. These exchanges will be
mutually beneficial in key areas such as improved service delivery, the use of
technology and enhanced governance, accountability, and management practices.
“In a changing and increasingly competitive world, Canadians need a public
service that is not only excellent but also connected to, and representative
of all parts of society,” said the Prime Minister. “As well, senior
executives from other sectors can benefit from an opportunity to learn at
first hand how our Government works, while bringing leading-edge techniques
and practices to the Government.”
The new Government of Canada Fellows Program targets high-ranking officials
with extensive professional experience and exceptional leadership and
management skills, including strategic thinking, as well as values and ethics.
Ultimately, the Fellows Program will provide participants with the opportunity
to gain knowledge and new expertise, and to broaden their contributions to the
country.
“This program has tremendous merit,” added John Baird, President of the
Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Public Service Human Resources
Management Agency that will manage the Fellows Program. “Sharing
talents and ideas will enhance and strengthen relationships, and build better
understanding.”
The Public Policy Forum, through the leadership of its President Jodi White,
will assist the Agency with the promotion of the program and the necessary
partnerships to identify participants.
