Afghanistan Task Force

The PCO-led Afghanistan Task Force provides advice and support to the Prime Minister on the implementation of a strategic plan to transform Canada's role in Afghanistan. It also coordinates government-wide operations in Afghanistan.
This work is shaped by key recommendations made by the Independent Panel on Canada's Future Role in Afghanistan (the "Manley Panel").
The Task Force has a mandate to:

  • Provide strategic policy development and integration
  • Coordinate federal government activities and operations in Afghanistan
  • Track implementation of the Government's strategy
  • Build coherence and consistency in communicating the mission to Canadians, international audiences and to Afghans

The 26-member Task Force is staffed with key personnel with relevant expertise from:

  • Foreign Affairs and International Trade
  • National Defence
  • Canadian International Development Agency
  • Treasury Board Secretariat
  • Correctional Service of Canada
  • Public Safety Canada
  • Privy Council Office
