Economy

Working hand-in-hand with Canadians, the Government has achieved the critical objective of restoring the nation’s finances. More than two million new jobs have been created since 1993, and the unemployment rate remains at its lowest point in almost a quarter century. The Government is committed to sustaining our prosperity for the long term by branding the Canadian economy as one of the most innovative in the world -- driven by cutting-edge ideas and talent and a magnet for new ventures and investment. Our approach to achieving this overriding goal is an inclusive one, in which all Canadians have a chance to put their ideas and skills to work and in which no one is left behind as we move ahead.
