Arts and Culture

May 3, 2001 - Major New Investment in Canadian Arts and Culture - At more than $500 million over the next three years alone, it is the largest federal investment in arts and culture in more than 40 years.

Safer Communities

July 5, 2001 - Additional Fundings for Safer Communities - The Government of Canada will invest a further $145 million in the National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention. Launched in 1998, Phase II of the National Strategy is a fundamental component of the Government's commitment to reduce crime and continue building a nation of safer homes and streets.

April 5, 2001 - New Measures Against Organized Crime - The proposed legislation will improve anti-gang legislation enacted in 1997, and an additional $200 million over the next five years will support the implementation of legislation and related prosecution and law enforcement strategies to fight organized crime.

February 2001 - The New Youth Criminal Justice Act - A pillar in our Youth Justice Renewal Strategy, which seeks to address the public’s need for a system that promotes accountability, responsibility, rehabilitation, respect and fairness. The Act has built-in flexibility sought by the provinces to accommodate their unique needs and differences in approach as they work to achieve the objectives of the Youth Justice Strategy.

Natural Resources

April 2, 2001 - The Government’s Efforts Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), in cooperation with Canadian livestock and food industry partners, has put in place a series of measures designed to significantly reduce the chances of FMD spreading to Canada.

March 2, 2001 - $500 Million Additional Aid to Farmers - With the provinces contributing their traditional 40 per-cent share, this new investment amounts to an additional $830 million for Canadian farmers.

Youth

February 2001 - The Youth Employment Strategy (YES) - The YES site contains information about jobs and employment for youth, such as finding out about careers, about abilities and interests, education and training, job opportunities, and much more.
