PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES SENIOR APPOINTMENT January 29, 2002 Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Dan Goodleaf, Head of the Millennium Bureau of Canada, as Special Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, to serve as a Chief Federal Treaty Negotiator in British Columbia. Mr. Goodleaf will be responsible for, among other things, representing Canada in the tripartite negotiation and ensuring effective consultation with interested parties in the British Columbia treaty process. Mr. Goodleaf has extensive knowledge of the workings of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and a thorough understanding of claims and treaty negotiations, having held positions of increasing responsibility in the department for some 15 years, including the position of Deputy Minister. Mr. Goodleaf is a graduate of Loyola College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science). This appointment is effective March 1, 2002.
