PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES MOVER AND SECONDER
OF REPLY TO THE SPEECH FROM THE THRONE

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that MPs Paul Macklin (Northumberland) and Carole-Marie Allard (Laval-Est) will move and second, respectively, the Address in Reply to the Speech from the Throne.

The Speech from the Throne will be delivered by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson in the Senate at approximately 2:15 p.m. January 30, 2001. The moving and seconding speeches will immediately follow in the House of Commons.

Paul Macklin

A successful lawyer and experienced community leader in Northumberland County, Paul Macklin was elected Member of Parliament for Northumberland on November 27th 2000.

Prior to his election, Mr. Macklin was a partner in the law firm of Stewart, Mitchell & Macklin. He has a long record of community involvement that includes service with the Rotary Club, Junior Achievement and the Northumberland Business Development Assistance Corporation.

Mr. Macklin was born and raised in Northumberland. He lives with his wife, Joan, and their family on a portion of the original family farm in Hamilton Township. He is 46 years of age.

 

Carole-Marie Allard

An accomplished expert in communications, a well-known journalist and a practising lawyer, Carole-Marie Allard was elected Member of Parliament for Laval-Est on November 27th 2000.

Ms. Allard joined the Quebec Bar in 1991 and has worked with the law firm Allard & Associates since 1993. From 1992-93, she was a press officer with the Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs and the Department of Indian Affairs. From 1990-91, she was a spokesperson for the Canada Post Corporation.

From 1971-89, Ms. Allard enjoyed great success as a broadcast journalist. From 1971-81, she was a reporter, writer and radio producer for Radio-Canada in Chicoutimi and Montréal. From 1984-85, she hosted Radio-Canada’s Ce Soir Régional from Ottawa; in 1985-86, she hosted the TVA program Sur la colline; from 1986-89 she was a radio correspondent and columnist for Radio-Canada and CKAC.
